HACHIBIS characters were created by Jack and Gina Mann; American toy designers with over 30 years of industry experience. Inspired by living and visiting relatives in Japan, Jack fell in love with the kawaii style culture of cuteness unique to the country and story of Hachiko, the famous Akita Inu dog who showed up daily to the train station waiting for his owner to arrive though he had passed away 9 years earlier. HACHIBIS combines the name HACHI, an homage to the loving and super loyal "Hachiko" and CHIBI, the word for a style of caricature originating in Japan, and common in anime and manga where characters are drawn in an exaggerated way, typically small and chubby with stubby limbs, oversized heads, and minimal detail. The characters stubby upward front limbs are meant to invoke a welcome and good luck gesture reminicent of the traditional maneki-neko ceramic cats seen all over Japan. Made from ultra-soft squishy velvet fabrics and polyfill microfiber these plush toy characters can be soft shaped into wider or taller versions of themselves and make delightful, whimsical high quality stuffed animal plush toys for people of all ages.
